Studio 189 revealed their 2021 ready-to-wear Fall fashion film on the 17th of February during New York fashion week. Studio 189, a sustainable brand, released their collection called Legacy, inspired “by traditional patterns and techniques interwoven into cloth that communicates our values, history and legacy to future generations.”

The collection is vibrant in the combination of colours used and is full of different types of prints. The silhouettes have a light structure with flowing skirts and dresses. The collection uses Kente which is Ghana’s National cloth, and “traditional techniques such as hand-batik, hand-weaving, patchworking, natural indigo dyeing, basket weaving, recycled cotton and upcycled denim from second-hand clothing sent to Ghana that we buy in the local Ghanaian market.”

Moreover, Studio 189 incorporated sustainability through “building products meant to last in mind by the use of zero-waste materials, recycled materials, and patchworking.”

The fashion film is twenty-four minutes long; it gives us a glimpse into the life of working for studio 189 in Ghana. The runway takes place in a room at the very heart of where the garments produced. The audience in the film is the team behind the collection.
