Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

Our Spring/Summer 2016 collection draws inspiration from a vast array of heritage and rich history that surrounds us in West Africa and beyond. We crafted this collection with the West African Adinkra symbol "Sankofa" in mind, a word which translates to the idea of looking back in order to move forward. Focusing on organic slow development towards positive socio-economic change, Studio 189 is exactly what fast fashion is not.

This year's Spring/Summer collection is very nautical, drawing inspiration from the water and the natural elements around us. We use hints of pink and red symbolizing the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication in craftsmanship, beautiful hand-batiked prints alluding to local art and architecture, as well as the diversity of culture behind the brand from American pop culture to Japanese Shibori, and LOTS of indigo and blues which also come from the indigo plant, an incredible natural resource.

Cotton, Silk, and Kente were batiked, tie-dyed and woven into beautiful prints and colors ocularly inspired from things around us. Techniques handed down through generations and from communities in Ghana, this collection speaks of royalty through its Kente pieces, street-style, and a vibe of ultimate leisure!

Ranging from evening dresses & stylish street-wear to shoes, bags, and accessories, all is luxuriously hand made and one-of-a-kind.

Make the journey with us, feel special.

Enjoy our collection!
