Eve Ensler and her nonprofit, V-Day, aim to change this statistic with One Billion Rising, a global call to action for people to “walk out, dance, rise up and demand” a stop to the violence. To support this movement, a group of designers recently created Fashion Rising, a collection that will hopefully develop sustainable fashion and artisanal businesses for women around the world. Fashion Rising is by Abrima Erwiah and actress Rosario Dawson of Studio One Eighty Nine, the line is composed of bags and accessories for men and women. Designers behind the line include Geren Lockhart of Geren Ford, Menzer Hajiyeva and Gold Coast Trading’s Emeka Alams, among others. Each item represents textiles and craftsmanship of women around the world, with 10% of each sale going toward OBR. From kimonos produced in Uganda to colourful hand-painted bags from a Brazilian atelier, the collection reflects OBR’s international community.
