Ghana Fashion and Design Week® launched the first ethical fashion platform in Ghana under its umbrella themed – ETHIKHA™ in 2012. GFDW ETHIKHA™ creates a fashionable platform that represents ethical and sustainable fashion designer entrepreneurs and businesses with a social mission to showcase and exhibit their creative products during Ghana Fashion & Design Week this October.
The ETHIKHA™ Exhibition platform is set to showcase a mixture of contemporary Fashion and LifeStyle products from fashion, accessories, home-ware, and interior accessories designers. GFDW ETHIKHA™ aims to further create awareness, develop taste and promote the essential message that ethical fashion practices carries through its ETHIKHA™ platform for creative designers and business who are committed to ethical fashion and lifestyle products design in an eco sustainable environment.
GFDW® ETHIKHA™ platform is dedicated to creative designers committed to Ethical and sustainable Fashion development, and Creative entrepreneurs with a Social mission and is supported by Ethical Fashion Ghana (EFG) and also ourselves Africa Fashion Guide UK(AFG) where designers can access further information on Ethical Fashion, resourcing, manufacturing, inspiration and global news. Los Angeles native Tina Tangalakis always sought to combine her love of art and humanitarian work. Della is socially responsible fashion line working directly with a community in Ghana, West Africa. Every product is carefully handcrafted using authentic textiles sourced in the Volta Region. The passionate, talented women and men who create the pieces are given an opportunity to build a foundation for a better life through jobs, education and skills training, employment, education and financial stability for women and men in Ghana. Our employees receive a steady, fair income and are empowered through education via micro-financing, savings and entrepreneurship classes.
TASH’ORNEE ENTERPRISE with the brand name TASH’O is a privately owned business. TASH’O’s mission is to create handcrafted beaded jewellery for women not afraid to make a bold fashion statement. TASH’O’s unique handcrafted beaded jewellery is an ode to the fusion of African and Western influences which reflect in our pieces. We aim to create beautiful and unique pieces by using different bead stones in vibrant and bold colours with unique pieces of accessories. We have stayed true to our mission of designing, training and providing innovative concepts of hand crafted jewelries to diverse and more importantly across the multicultural divides in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
Eve Ensler and her nonprofit, V-Day, aim to change this statistic with One Billion Rising, a global call to action for people to “walk out, dance, rise up and demand” a stop to the violence. To support this movement, a group of designers recently created Fashion Rising, a collection that will hopefully develop sustainable fashion and artisanal businesses for women around the world. Fashion Rising is by Abrima Erwiah and actress Rosario Dawson of Studio One Eighty Nine, the line is composed of bags and accessories for men and women. Designers behind the line include Geren Lockhart of Geren Ford, Menzer Hajiyeva and Gold Coast Trading’s Emeka Alams, among others. Each item represents textiles and craftsmanship of women around the world, with 10% of each sale going toward OBR. From kimonos produced in Uganda to colourful hand-painted bags from a Brazilian atelier, the collection reflects OBR’s international community.
Tuedor and Wright is a love affair with colour, heritage, culture and life. The brand collections are lovingly produced to work in reality, but also allow a chance to indulge in a bit of escapism, with exotic inspirations influenced by Japan and West Africa. Tuedor and Wright blends Japanese Fabrics with vibrant African fabrics which takes center stage featuring simple shapes and bold silhouettes. The Tuedor brand is fun, wearable, and has constant variety and energy.
