The art of Gold Smithing

Accra, Ghana: Studio One Eighty Nine collaborates with metalworking artisans in Accra, Ghana, otherwise known as the Gold Coast, who specialize in working with gold, brass and other precious metals. Our goldsmiths are skilled in making jewelry through filing, soldering, sawing, forging, casting and polishing metal. These are skills that have been passed down through generations of training and apprenticeships. Each piece of jewelry is hand-made and hand-engraved, as unique as the hand of the artisan. It is a testament to the history and evolution of the craft and skilled development over time. It takes 2-3 artisans and approximately 2 weeks to hand-make and hand-engrave our S189 metal jewelry.
