Fashion Our Future
Launched in 2020, Fashion our Future is an initiative initiated by Studio189 with a mission to leverage the power of fashion and creativity as a medium to promote voter registration, engage eligible voters in the election process and empower the next generation of leaders. The initiative works to amplify the message of voting organizations through its designer and influencer network. We work with VotoLatino to register voters across the country and Swing Left to encourage eligible voters to vote.
Backed by designers, models, editors and the fashion industry at large, Fashion our Future (FOF) hosts panels, workshops, and events including at NYFW: The Shows in partnership with IMG. Fashion our Future shares content throughout the camoaign leading up to the election day on November 5th. But also shares information regarding other elections and opportunities to participate in elections and legislation.
“We are standing on the shoulders of all the people who marched and fought and died for us to have this right. This is our birthright and we intend to exercise it, in the name of democracy.” said Abrima Erwiah, co-founder studio189 and Fashion our Future. “We believe that the fashion and creative industries have the ability to achieve great impact and the most immediate action we can take right now is to participate in the election process and to vote. Voting is the change agent that we need.”
In 2020, in addition to VotoLatino and Swing Left, fashion our Future was supported by Virgil Abloh, Supreme, Tanya Taylor, in the BLK Foundation, IMG, Endeavor Impact, The Real Real, Vice/Refinery29, CFDA, Rosswell Studios, Action Button, Twelve NYC.
