Studio189 is proud to be among the artists participating in the Stanley 1913 x Nest collection one-of-a-kind collaboration celebrating creativity this International Women’s Day. The Stanley 1913 x Nest collection honors four global makers who create, build, and invent: Fabriulous from Shanghai, China; M.A Estudio from Mexico City, Mexico; Studio 189 from Accra, Ghana and New York; and Élan Byrd from Miami, Florida. Together, they connect people and handcraft to create a more prosperous and beautiful world.

In celebration of the Stanley 1913 x Nest ongoing partnership, Stanley 1913 has made a $125,000 donation to Nest’s programs to support emerging global creators.
At Studio 189, women are the heartbeat of our community, vessels of memory, bearers of joy, and architects of change. Our patterns reflect a deep connection to tradition and our interdependence with artisans and community. They draw from symbols such as the West African adinkra Boa Me Na Me Mmoa Wo, meaning “help me and let me help you,” as well asmotifs found in American Freedom Quilts.
These textiles carry us from Africa to America, across the global diaspora and back again, reminding us that our stories are deeply interconnected.
The “Kofi Masquerade” print was first hand-drawn on paper and then hand-batiked onto textile.
It is named in honor of the richness found in traditional costumes and the spirit of celebration, joy, and community present throughout Africa and its diaspora.
We honor those who carry legacy in their fingers, because when you empower a woman, you build a safe place, a bridge, and a future stitched together by community.
